Relieving stomach discomfort with herbal teas

Teas made with medicinal plants are extremely helpful in easing the digestive discomfort we feel after overeating. We will give you a few tips on how to relieve stomach fullness after eating too much, by choosing natural home remedies and recipes.

Nutritionists, doctors and dieticians often advise us to avoid eating excessively, simply because it the best way to avoid weight gain, keep our digestive system in check and aid digestion.

You will probably remember a time when you have eaten too much and noticed the familiar symptoms of fullness, stomach pain and indigestion.  Heartburn is also common.

Stomach discomfort isn’t exclusively linked to overeating – it can also occur after eating too quickly, drinking too much alcohol or using too many spices.

Digestive herbal teas for stomach discomfort

The most useful digestive herbal teas in this case are those that help to cleanse our stomach by purifying it naturally and relieving the usual symptoms.

  • Chamomile and aniseed tea

Ingredients: 1 tsp of chamomile flowers, 1 tsp of aniseed and 1 cup of water

Preparation: boil the equivalent to a cup of water in a saucepan and add the chamomile and aniseed. Boil it for 3 minutes and then cover it and leave it to rest for 2 minutes. Strain and serve.

  • Rosemary tea

Ingredients: 2 Tbsp of Rosemary leaves and 1 l of water.

Preparation: Boil 1l of water and add the rosemary leaves. Leave it to boil for 3 minutes. Take it off the heat, cover it and let it rest for 2 minutes. Strain it and drink 1 cup.

  • Milk thistle tea

Ingredients: 2 Tbsp of milk thistle, ¼ l of water.

Preparation: Boil ¼ l of water and add the milk thistle leaves. Leave it to boil for 3 minutes. Take it off the heat, cover it and leave it to rest for 5 minutes. Strain and serve.

  • Thyme tea

Ingredients: 1 tsp of thyme, 1 cup of water.

Preparation: Boil 1 cup of water in a saucepan and add the thyme. Boil it for 3 minutes. Take it off the heat, cover it and leave it to rest for 2 minutes. Strain and serve.

Follow a bland diet

It is normal that we should feel full for the first few hours after having eaten too much; it is therefore a good idea to give our stomach a rest by eating a very bland diet of vegetable broths, fruits and vegetables.
