Conjunctivitis: 6 homeopathic remedies

There exist some homeopathic remedies that can treat conjunctivitis. Factors that trigger conjunctivitis are currents of air, sun, wind, water and bacterial or viral infections.

Moreover, conjunctivitis can also be caused by a cold, measles or due to an eye injury.

The symptoms of conjunctivitis are itching and redness, and children can get the feeling of having sand in the eye. The eye becomes inflamed and is very shiny and bright. If bacteria cause the conjunctivitis, there is a secretion of pus in the eye that sometimes makes it difficult to open.

Six homeopathic remedies for conjunctivitis

Aconitum 12 D

Aconitum is prescribed when conjunctivitis occurs suddenly after being exposed to a cold wind or airflow. It can also be due to sand, dust or a foreign body entering the eye. Children have the feeling that the eye is dry, that they have sand in their eyes and light bothers them. The eye is red.

Apis 12 D

Apis is prescribed when the eye is inflamed and the eyelid is very swollen. The first symptoms that a child notices are stinging, itching and then a hot tear secretion. Symptoms improve if cold compresses are applied.

Belladonna 12 D

Belladonna is prescribed when symptoms appear suddenly and violently. The eye is very red, the pupils are dilated and there are no, or limited, tear secretions.

The child has as a throbbing or pounding pain in the eyes. They feel that the eyes are swollen, and seem to come out of their orbit. The child feels great discomfort when exposed to light.

How are Aconitum, Belladonna and Apis prescribed?

5 pellets taken every half an hour until a full two hours have passed. If this shows improvement, five pellets twice a day can be taken until symptoms disappear.

Euphralia 12 D

Euphralia is prescribed when the eye and eyelid are red and swollen. A child will constantly blink because their eyes sting.

Vision is blurred and the light is bothersome, a child will improve in the dark, or by wearing sunglasses, by going outdoors or in a ventilated room. The child may have purulent and irritant secretions.

Pulsatilla 12 D

Pulsatilla is prescribed when the child is very tearful and with a highly variable state of mind. Their eyes sting, are painful and have a feeling of dryness.

The eyelids are red and swollen and the child often rubs them. The child has difficulty opening the eyes in the morning. Symptoms get worse if the child is in a warm room and it is better to ventilate the room frequently.

Rhus toxicodendron 12 D

Rhus toxicodendron is prescribed in cases of keratoconjunctivitis due to herpes or phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis.

It is a disease of childhood characterized by the appearance of small nodules in the cornea and conjunctiva. There is intense inflammation and tearing. The affected child is bothered by light.

How are Euphralia, Pulsatilla and Rhus toxicodendron prescribed?

5 granules taken three times daily. If a clear improvement is seen, take 5 granules twice daily.
